RAMED is hosting a workshop Saturday, Nov 18, 2023, at the Argyle Park Community Centre, 35 Davin Crescent in Regina.
Workshop 1 – Rumba Bellydance Fusion
Seher has been a part of the bellydance community in Regina for over 20 years. She has also competed in American Style Ballroom across Canada and the United States in both Professional/Amateur and Amateur/Amateur divisions. She was a member of the Regina Ballroom Dance Club and Dance Class Studio for many years.
Seher has combined her love of bellydance and ballroom into Rumba Bellydance Fusion that can be performed to any rumba music. Come and learn to “Dance With the Stars” with a bellydance shimmy.
Workshop 2- Nubian folkloric dance
Aschera Rose began studying belly dance while in Edmonton in 1986 and has been teaching since 1997. Her dance style is dramatic and sensual. A flair for theatrical styling is shown in her solo choreography and is reflected in the pieces that her students perform. She has studied many folkloric styles over the years with numerous instructors from all over the world. She has attended international workshops in Minneapolis, Calgary, and Toronto where the focus was on folkloric styles. Folkloric pieces can be very theatrical especially if a story line is included.
Nubian folkloric dance is colourful and fun. The rhythms make you want to move, and the fairly simple steps are perfect for groups who incorporate lots of formation changes. This workshop will cover some history, costuming and the steps and arm movements as well as some ideas for formation changes. It is something any dancer and troupe can use as a part of a routine or as a whole piece.
Workshop 3- Stage Makeup
Learn how to put your best face forward on stage with a makeup artist. Jolie Read Engelbrecht has been assisting actors of Sterling Productions Musical Theatre group to put on their stage makeup for several years. Learn how lighting quality and distance affects how you should apply your own makeup. Bring the supplies that you have and your list of questions for this interactive demonstration. Refer to the packing list if you haven’t been on stage before.
Hafla
Now that you have your makeup done, stay for the hafla. Perform something old, something new or something just under construction. Bring some finger food to share. Workshop attendees can attend the hafla for free and you will get one free halfa ticket to give away. Additional tickets are $5 so plan to bring friends so we have an audience. If you are not attending one of the Nov 18th workshops, we ask that you buy a halfa ticket to attend and perform at the hafla.
Performances are limited to 5 minutes. We are time constrained to 10 or 12 performances, so each dancer is limited to one performance. A second performance will be allowed if time permits.
Swap and Trade Tables
We will have tables set up for anything you would like to swap, trade or sell.
